The LINGER Fan Art Contest Rules - Plus One

Hello!

Most of you already know, I work for Borders in Glendale, CA.

Some of you already know that Maggie Stiefvater, author of Shiver, Lament, and Ballad; musician, artist, mom, and author extraordinaire, will be at my store at 7 pm on Monday, July 26th to sign Linger, the 2nd book in her series, The Wolves of Mercy Falls.

Did you know we're holding a contest? :D

We are so excited about the event that we are inviting you, O creative Shiver Fans, to enter a contest to win fabulous prizes (consisting of signed copies of Maggie's books) - by entering a fan art contest based on The Wolves of Mercy Falls. Prizes will be provided by Borders Glendale management. No purchase necessary! (But you *do* have to put some thought into your entry... we're asking Maggie to select the winners! er, Maggie, if you're reading this already, I sent you an email--no pressure, though. And I realize you probably just got a thousand emails over the weekend :D )

What do you have to do? Anything creative expressing your love of SHIVER -- you can paint a picture, sing a song, design a shirt--what the heck, bake a cake. Surprise us! Read the book, think about something cool and amazing and just do it. If your entry involves a performance, you can either pre-record it or perform at the signing.

Deadline 1: Fill out this form to submit your contact information by the end of the day on July 19, 2010 DEADLINE EXTENDED! July 25, 2010. The information is available only to me and my manager, and will not be used for anything other than to contact you about your contest entry. This is so that we can figure out how much space/time your entry will need, and whether we need any equipment (for example, a TV and DVD player to play a short film, a mic for a song or poem, or an easel for a painting/drawing, etc.) in order to properly display your contest entry.

Deadline 2: The signing starts at 7 pm on Monday, July 26, so all entries that are not a) perishable or b) live performances must be present and on display no later than 6:30 pm. If you need to make arrangements to bring in your entry prior to that time, well, that's what the form in Deadline 1 is all about.

The Rules:

1. No purchase necessary, but you and your fan art entry must be present at the Maggie Stiefvater signing at 7 pm on Monday, July 26, 2010, at Borders Glendale, in order to win!

2. Be creative, and theme your art around SHIVER and THE WOLVES OF MERCY FALLS, but please do not plagiarize.

3. All entries must be appropriate for an all-ages audience.

4. One entry per person.

5. To enter, fill out this form by July 19, 2010 and bring your entry to the signing location by 6:30 pm on Monday, July 26, 2010.

6. There will be three (3) winners selected by a judge.

First Prize: signed copies of Shiver (1 copy), Linger (1 copy), Lament (1 copy) & Ballad (1 copy)

Second Prize: signed copies of Shiver (1 copy) & Linger (1 copy)

Third Prize: signed copy of Linger (1 copy)

If anyone wants full legalese on the contest, email me and I will draft a more precise but probably unreadable version of the rules.

To recap:

A. Love Shiver. Want Linger.

B. Make something cool.

C. Bring it to the signing.

D. Hope you win!

If you have questions, feel free to email me at frootjoos at gmail dot com.

The RNSL 100 Origami Cranes Challenge

Can't make it to the signing? You can still win a signed copy of Linger, and have a presence of sorts at the signing...

As a totally separate, Read Now Sleep Later sponsored contest, the first Shiver fan to send me 100 folded paper cranes will receive a signed hardcover copy of Linger (to be mailed to the winner after the July 26 event) and a special, secret, Read Now Sleep Later giant goody bag o' stuff. Yep, origami cranes--they don't have to be good, there just have to be 100! (Hey, I'm not even going to make you fold a thousand of them. Just 100.)

You have until July 20, 2010, or whenever the first 100 cranes arrive in my mailbox! To enter, fill out this form and start folding!

The runner-up will receive a paperback copy of Barry Hughart's Bridge of Birds, which, by the way, is an awesome book.
If you need folding instructions, there are some right here. If you need ideas on how to make them extra awesome, ask me. :D I'm folding them, too.
This contest is open to residents of the United States only.

If you just want to RSVP for the signing you can either do that on Facebook or RSVP here. Thanks!

  1. Folding a hundred paper cranes? That's got to be one of the most amazing and original contests I've ever wanted to enter (I can't [England-dweller], but still. Awesome!). What are you going to do with them?

  3. I could've gone to this, as it seems fun, but I can't do to the fact that I'm going on vacation. Oh well, good luck!
