From goodreads.com:

Dru Anderson has what her grandmother called “the touch.” (Comes in handy when you’re traveling from town to town with your dad, hunting ghosts, suckers, wulfen, and the occasional zombie.) Will Dru discover just how special she really is before coming face-to-fang with whatever—-or whoever—-is hunting her?

How I found out about this book: I read it a couple of years ago and am now waaaaay behind. Kimberly was nice enough to review it--thanks, Buggie!

Kimberly's review: The first book in the Strange Angels series, with the fourth book having just come out this year, makes for an amazing beginning! We've got a strong, fighting teenage girl. A fun boy friend character. (Notice the space between boy and friend). Zombies. Werewolves. Vampires. Magic and some twisting on these traditional definitions along the way.

I'm not going to say how Dru finds herself to be alone (because that was both heartbreaking and gross), or how she meets this cool new boy friend of hers (and he's Asian goth. really, there's not enough non-white kids in books. I applaud you, Lili St.Crow!) or what she has to do now, stranded in a Dakota with little money, too much snow and something hunting her.

But I will say that it's quite the ride. The book starts off laying the groundwork to a solid teenage girl who has bad stuff, and I mean BAD stuff, happen to her. We see her reality, only to find it ripped away a few chapters in.

There's a lot more to be told and I'm anxious to read the next installments. I had to read carefully, slowly, to make sure I understood all the different creatures out there. And the suspense was amazing... a slow crawl up my neck.

Enjoy the first book and get the second book while you're at it. Because you'll want to keep going.

  1. LOL, I got 100% Dru! I'm surprised cause that girl is way more bad*** than me. Great review, nice touch with the quiz. I love this series and I agree, Asian Goth is cool. Though I'm more of a Christophe girl. ;)
