In My Mailbox (12)

Sooo... It's been a while since I did one of these, and I was going to wait until after ALA to post, but, well, I kind of went a little crazy with books the last couple of weeks and it's just going to be too much for one post.

So this is just a teaser before The Big One!

Traded:

The Game of Sunken Places by M. T. Anderson
Book 1 in the Norumbegan Trilogy - used up my last credit on Paperback Swap

Borrowed:

The awesome costumes some of the Shadow and Bone partiers wore inspired me to go look up Russian art and design, so I requested these books from the library: Russian Art: From Neoclassicism to the Avant-Garde and Cultural Atlas of Russia & The Former Soviet Union. They are both huge and I'm so glad the Pasadena Public Library had them. I also got Shape Shape and One Drawing a Day because usually I regret it when I buy an art or craft book without perusing it first

Bought:

Cinder by Marissa Meyer - I think you know what that looks like already, so here's a photo of the author looking like she's in the middle of a fairytale (appropriately, it's a bookstore called Once Upon a Time). Read Thuy's event recap here.

Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo - I picked up an ARC earlier in the year and loved it so much I had to get a hardcover copy. Lucky for me, Leigh lives in LA and had her launch party at the nearby Skylight Books! You can find Thuy's event recap here. By the way, she is totally a book ninja--the store sold out and then Thuy spied one sitting on a display behind Leigh and snagged it for me! *ninja applause* (which if you're not sure what that is, is basically silence, only slightly louder).

My new favorite food blog is Love & Olive Oil. Cook/blogger/photographer Lindsay Landis's debut book, The Cookie Dough Lover's Cookbook, looked so scrumptious that I just had to pre-order it! Which I did, months ago, and it finally arrived! I can vouch for the yumminess that is her raw chocolate chip cookie dough recipe--don't worry, there are no raw eggs in it, and she has dairy-free and vegan variations too!

This one was a total impulse buy just a few days before the Cinder signing. Gilt by Katherine Longshore... More like guilt over my totally forgotten book budget. ;D

Mrs. Nelson's Book Fair Company (sister to the bookstore in Laverne, CA) has an annual sale and I finally made it! Thanks @Davidshead for driving. I got some great books at 40% off! Out of My Mind, Lulu & The Brontosaurus, The Adventures of Beanboy, Junonia, Handheld Pies, Scaredy Squirrel at the Beach, and Momofuku Milk Bar (which I have been just drooling over for months now!)

Ok, don't swoon before you finish reading, but these lovelies are from Joseph Gordon-Levitt's super awesome artist collaboration, HitRECord. There are two (so far) volumes of Tiny Book of Tiny Stories and the Little Red Riding Hood Redux (not for kids!). You can find them here. You can find a tiny video about Tiny Stories project here and Red Riding Redux here. Uh. Watch them later, because I can pretty much guarantee swooning. (You know, over books.)

Also acquired:

I know I was supposed to be clearing off my shelves with this giveaway, but then a librarian friend I know was also clearing out hers. Hehe. Nabbed: Darker Still, Dead to You, Girl, Stolen, The Dark and Hollow Places, Every Other Day, Lola & the Boy Next Door, and the adult novels The Sound & The Fury and Cloud Atlas. I actually have a couple of these already, but figure my book club peeps will be happy I picked them up. And hey, I'm giving away double this amount so... (can I claim that I broke even?)

Downloaded:

My Audible credits came in last week, so I grabbed Fat Kid Rules the World by K.L. Going. There's some exciting news coming up about RNSL + the movie of FKRTW coming soon, so stay tuned!

Just bragging now:

Ok, so how many ways can I brag that I am the biggest Maria V. Snyder fangirl ever? If I ever have to move to a much smaller place and only have room for a few books, my MVS collection would be at the top of my Keep pile. I was having a hard time getting an online retailer to send me the UK paperback for her latest novel, Touch of Power, so she mailed me one. Can I just say, ♥♥♥?

That's it for me this week. What's in your mailbox?

  4. What a haul! Love that you have awesome book ninja friends who are able to snag the very last copy for you! Seems that every time I clear off my shelves, a friend clears her shelves at the same time and we wind up trading books. No new space, but at least they're new bookcase occupants! Enjoy all of your books!
